M. R. Chains Pvt. Ltd.

If you know Chandni Chowk, you know how crowded Kucha Mahajani can get. We’re up on the second floor at number 1245. M. R. Chains Pvt. Ltd. has been tucked away here for a long time. The stairs are a bit steep and it’s always a squeeze when people are coming and going. We spend our days dealing with chains and small parts. It’s fine work, so we need good light, even though the building is old. It gets really hot in the summer, but we’re used to it by now. We don’t have some polished showroom with glass cases everywhere. It’s more of a workshop feel where the actual work happens. People come in with their requirements and we see what we can do. We’ve known the other shopkeepers in the kucha for years. We all sort of look out for each other. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit and talk until it comes back on. It’s not a corporate office with people in suits. We wear what’s comfortable for the job. Our desks are usually covered in bits of metal and tools. We just try to keep the orders moving so nobody is left waiting. It’s a lot of sitting and focusing on small things. That’s just how it goes here in the heart of the old city. It's a bit cramped, but we make it work for us every day.
