M M Moulds is out in Bawana Industrial Area, Sector 5, O-55. Bawana is quite a distance from the main city, so it feels like its own world out here. We make moulds, which means our shop is full of heavy metal, lathes, and grinding machines. It’s a dusty, metallic-smelling place. You won't find any fancy carpets or air-conditioned lobbies here. We work with our hands and the machines every day. The concrete floor is cracked in a few places from moving heavy equipment around. At O-55, we spend our mornings setting up the designs and the rest of the day cutting and shaping. It takes a lot of patience. If you rush a mould, it’s ruined. I’ve been doing this for a long time, and my hands are usually covered in oil or metal shavings by noon. We have a small tea break in the afternoon where we sit on stools and talk about the latest news or the weather. The heat in Bawana can be intense because there aren't many trees around, just rows of factories. We keep the big sliding door open to get some air. We aren't interested in being the biggest shop, just in making sure the work we do is solid. When a client picks up a finished mould and it’s exactly what they needed, that’s a good day for us. The commute out here is long, but once the machines start, the time goes by pretty fast.
