If you’ve ever been to Kashmere Gate, you know how chaotic the Guru Nanak Auto Market can be. Our shop, J J Auto Agency, is tucked into Shop No 157 C, right near the Tara Hotel. It’s a small place, packed from floor to ceiling with boxes of spare parts. There’s barely enough room for two people to stand inside at the same time. We spend most of our day digging through those boxes to find a specific bolt or a gasket for a customer. The air in the market always has that smell of grease and rubber. It’s a loud area, with people shouting and scooters weaving through the narrow lanes. We don't have a fancy catalog or a computer system for everything; a lot of it is just knowing where we put things on the shelves years ago. Most of the people who come to us are mechanics or other shop owners looking for something they can't find elsewhere. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, and we’ve seen the market grow even more crowded. It’s a lot of hard work, dealing with the heat and the constant noise. We keep a ledger to write down what we sell. It’s a very traditional way of doing things, but it works for us. We don’t have any slick sales pitches. We just see if we have the part you need and tell you the price. It's how things have always been done in this market.
