Guru Nanak Card

Our shop is tucked away in Raghu Ganj, over in Chawri Bazar at number 4011. If you know the area, you know how crowded it gets with all the paper and card shops everywhere. We’ve been sitting in this same spot for a very long time. The walls are lined with wooden shelves full of different card stocks and envelopes. It always smells like ink and old paper in here. We spend our days showing people different designs for weddings or religious events. Some people take hours to decide on a color, and that’s just how it goes with family events. Chawri Bazar is a loud place with rickshaws and people constantly moving past the door. We have a small printing press in the back that makes a steady clicking sound all through the afternoon. It’s not a modern setup with high-end computers everywhere. We still do a lot of things by hand because that’s how we learned the trade. My father started this and now I’m the one here most days of the week. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just find us by walking through the narrow lanes of the market. Sometimes the stairs are narrow and hard to climb when we are carrying heavy boxes of paper. We just keep the shop open from morning until the market closes at night. It’s a simple life selling cards to families who are celebrating.
