If you ever find yourself in the middle of Kashmere Gate, you probably know how hectic Gandhi Motor Market is. We are located at 2668-B, right in the thick of it. Gur Sarab Automotives is basically a place where we handle a lot of metal and grease. There are parts stacked up to the ceiling in some corners. We spend most of the morning unloading deliveries and checking lists. It’s noisy because of all the trucks and the other shops nearby, but you get used to it after a week or two. My hands are usually a bit dirty from checking the stock. We don’t have a big reception area or anyone to bring you water. You just come in and tell us what part you are looking for. We go back into the stacks and see if we have it. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to find the exact match, especially for the older models that people are trying to keep on the road. The air always smells a bit like oil and cardboard. We’ve been here long enough that we know most of the mechanics who come by for their daily needs. We don’t use any fancy computers for everything; a lot of it is still written down in big ledgers or just kept in our heads. It’s a lot of work but it keeps us busy from opening until we pull the heavy steel shutters down at night. We just try to get the orders right.
