Goldmart

If you know Chandni Chowk, you know how crowded Kucha Mahajani gets. Our shop, Goldmart, is at No.1153/2. It is right in the thick of things. We spend most of our time dealing with gold and jewelry, which is what everyone does around this part of Delhi. The stairs up to the shop are a bit narrow and you have to watch your step when the market is full of people. We’ve been at this location for a long time. Some of the older shopkeepers nearby still remember when we first opened the doors. It is noisy outside with all the rickshaws and people shouting, but inside it is a bit quieter. We keep the counters clean and wait for people to come in and look at what we have. It is not like those big malls you see nowadays. It is more traditional, where you sit down and talk for a bit before doing any business. We handle a lot of different pieces, some old and some new. My father used to say that the location matters more than the sign, and being here in Kucha Mahajani proves that. Every morning we open up, polish the glass, and get ready for the day. Sometimes we stay late if a customer is taking their time. It is a lot of work keeping track of everything, but we like being part of this old market. That is just how life is here at Goldmart.
