Baba Sant Mechanical Works

The shop is over at L-4 in Udhyog Nagar, right near the Delhi G P O area. It’s a bit of a trek for some people but we are always here. Most mornings start with the sound of metal hitting metal. Since we do mechanical work, there is always grease on the floor and my clothes never stay clean for more than ten minutes. It’s a dusty place because of the industrial setting, but that is Udhyog Nagar for you. We don’t have a big sign or bright lights. Just a small space where we get things fixed. I spend a lot of time looking for specific bolts or tools that seem to go missing right when I need them. The tea here is okay, but the heat inside the workshop can get pretty bad around July. We just open the doors wide and keep working. Sometimes customers wait around and chat while we look at their machines. There isn’t much seating, just a couple of old stools near the corner. It is a very practical place. We don't spend money on decorations or fancy office chairs. Every day feels pretty much the same, just fixing whatever is broken and trying to keep the bench organized. We’ve been at this address for a while and the neighbors know us. It’s just how it is, simple work and long hours in a busy industrial block.
