Running a shop in Kashmere Gate means you get used to the noise pretty fast. We are located at 1238/1 in Bara Bazar. It’s one of those narrow spots where you have to watch your step because of the boxes piled up on the pavement. Every day is mostly the same thing. We arrive, pull up the shutters, and start checking what came in the night before. Most of the time we are looking for specific parts that someone needs for their truck or car. The shelves are full of metal bits and boxes that all look the same to someone who doesn't work here. My hands stay a bit greasy most of the day. There’s a tea stall just a few doors down that makes the best ginger chai, and that’s what keeps us going through the winter months. In summer, it’s just hot and crowded. We talk to the mechanics who come by, and they usually have some story about a broken engine. It’s not a quiet place at all. The horns outside are constant. Sometimes we have to shout just to be heard over the traffic. We’ve been at this Bara Bazar location for quite a while. It’s a tight space, but we make it work. By the time we close up, the sun is usually long gone and the streetlights are flickering. We just lock up and head home, ready to do it again tomorrow.
