My clinic is located at 1854 Kalyan Vihar, over in the Outram Lines area. It’s a residential part of town, so things stay relatively calm compared to the main markets. I’ve been practicing here for quite a while now. The room is quite small, with just my desk, a couple of chairs, and the examination table behind the curtain. The walls are a pale color and I have a few old medical charts hanging up that have been there since I started. Most of the people who come to see me are from the neighborhood. I know their kids and I’ve seen them grow up over the years. I usually start my day by checking the appointment book, though a lot of people just walk in when they aren't feeling well. There is a small waiting area outside the main room where people sit and talk quietly. Sometimes the fan overhead makes a clicking sound, but nobody seems to mind. Kalyan Vihar is a nice place to work because it feels more like a community than a business district. I don't use any of those modern fancy systems; I still write out notes by hand in my ledger. It’s just me and a part-time assistant who helps with the cleaning and the files. We keep things simple and honest. When the day is over, I lock the gate and walk home. It’s a steady routine that suits the way I like to work.
