Down in Agarpara, you’ll find us at number 4 Kumarpara Road. It’s a bit of a journey out to the Kakarhati post office area, but this is where we’ve set up shop for the long haul. The building is old, much like many things in this part of Kolkata. We are surrounded by small businesses and houses. The road can be a bit bumpy, and when it rains, you really have to watch your step because of the puddles. Inside, it’s quiet compared to the street outside. We have a few rooms filled with metal shelves and stacks of old records. Most of the staff has been here for years, so we all know how the drawer locks are a bit sticky. We don't have a receptionist in a uniform or anything like that. Usually, you just walk in and someone will look up from their desk to see what you need. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the local news while we work. The humidity in West Bengal means the walls always need a bit of touch-up paint, which we get around to every few years. It’s a very local feel. We aren't trying to impress anyone with modern furniture or glass walls. We just need a place to sit and handle our responsibilities. The ceiling is high, which helps a bit with the afternoon heat. It’s a simple, honest place where we just get on with the day’s tasks as they come.
