Our business, Siddhi Vinayak Gems & Jewellery Pvt. Ltd., is based in the village of Kanchiara. To find us, you have to head toward the 24 Parganas district in West Bengal and go via Suria. It is a quiet place out here compared to the big cities, and we like it that way. We spend our days working with different stones and metals at our small benches. The shop has been a part of this community for a long time. People from the village and the nearby P.O. areas come to see us when they need something for a family event or a wedding. We don't have those bright, blinding lights you see in city showrooms. Instead, we use the natural light from the windows to show the true color of the gems. It is delicate work that requires a lot of patience and steady hands. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we just sit outside and talk with the neighbors until it comes back on. We keep our records in big handwritten books because it is what we are comfortable with. The safe is the most important thing in the shop, and we are very careful with it. We don't spend money on advertising or fancy signs. Our work usually speaks for itself when someone sees a piece we have made. It is just a regular life here in West Bengal, focused on the craft of making jewelry for the people we know.
