Our Kolkata office for Setraco Nigeria Ltd. is located in Salt Lake City, specifically in Sector 2, at block BJ-10. It is a bit of an interesting situation because while we are here in West Bengal, a lot of what we talk about happens thousands of miles away. The office is usually humming with the sound of computers and people talking on the phone. We have a landline number, 23349325, which rings more than you would think. Salt Lake is a nice, planned area, so it’s a bit quieter outside than the rest of Kolkata, which we appreciate. Inside, the decor is pretty basic—just some desks, some filing cabinets, and a map or two on the wall. We spend a lot of time coordinating between local staff and the operations abroad. There is a lot of paperwork involving international stuff that can be quite tedious, but someone has to do it. We drink a lot of tea and occasionally someone brings in sweets from the local market. It is a small team here, so we all end up doing a bit of everything, whether it’s answering the phone or fixing a jammed printer. We don’t try to look like a massive multinational hub; we are just a functional office handling our part of the business from this corner of Kolkata. It’s steady work and we just take it one day at a time without much fuss.
