Sankalpa is located in Cluster 2, P6 Purbachal, over in the Salt Lake area of Kolkata. Being in Purbachal feels more like being in a neighborhood than a business district. Our office is part of the cluster housing, so it has a very domestic feel to it. You have to walk through some narrow paths to get to our door. Inside, it is quite simple with a few plastic chairs and a big wooden table where we do most of our meetings. We usually have the windows open to let in a bit of a breeze, even if it brings in the noise of the local kids playing outside. We don't have any flashy equipment or expensive furniture. Most of what we have was bought second-hand or donated. We focus on community work and small-scale projects, so there are always people coming and going. Sometimes it’s a neighbor with a question, other times it’s someone we are helping out. We keep a ledger for everything and try to stay as organized as we can on a small budget. The tea comes from the stall at the corner of the block. We don't have a lot of formal rules; we just try to be available when people need us. It’s a quiet life in Salt Lake, and we are happy to be a small part of this community. It feels more like a home than a workplace.
