M/S. Ramky Infrastructure Ltd has a setup out in the village of Chowrashi, which is in the Deganga area of North 24 Parganas. It is a very different environment compared to the big city offices. Being in a rural part of West Bengal means we are surrounded by fields and local houses. Our office is a simple building that serves as a hub for the infrastructure work we are doing in this district. We spend a lot of our time out in the field, so the office is often just a place to store files and take a break from the sun. The roads out here can be rough, especially during the monsoon season when everything turns to mud. We have to be very practical about how we move our equipment and manage our time. Most of the people working here are from the nearby villages, so there is a lot of local knowledge being shared. We don't have high-speed internet all the time, so we rely on phones and face-to-face meetings to get things done. We don't have any marketing posters on the walls, just calendars and project charts. It is a quiet place for the most part, except when the heavy machinery is being moved around. We just focus on the job at hand and try to stay helpful to the local community as we go about our work.
