K.G. Enterprise

We are located at 4/2 Balai Dhar Lane, which is right in the Ariadaha area of Kolkata. If you know the north side of the city, you know how these lanes are. They are narrow and full of life. We’ve got our little enterprise running from this spot. It’s an old building, typical for West Bengal, with thick walls and high ceilings. We do a bit of everything here. It’s mostly small-scale business stuff, trading or supplying things locally. The humidity in Ariadaha can be something else, especially in July. We usually have the windows open to catch whatever air comes off the river nearby. People walk past the door all day long, going to the market or the station. It’s a very local feel. We aren't some big firm in a skyscraper; we’re just here in the lane. Sometimes we have boxes stacked up to the ceiling when a shipment comes in. Other times it’s quiet and we’re just catching up on the books. It’s a real family-style operation. Most of us grew up around here, so we know the shortcuts and the shops. Kolkata is a loud, busy city, but Balai Dhar Lane has its own rhythm. We just try to keep the business going and stay on good terms with the neighbors. It’s a practical, everyday kind of life here in this part of town. We just open up every morning and see what the day brings us.
