Urban Carnival is over at C-98 in the Hosiery Complex. This area is always full of the sound of sewing machines and the smell of new fabric. Our unit is quite large because we need the space for the cutting tables and the storage racks. It’s a bit messy with threads and scraps of cloth on the floor, but that’s how it is when you’re making things. We have a group of tailors and cutters who have been with us for a long time. There is no air conditioning in the main work area, just large ceiling fans that spin all day. We spend most of our time looking at patterns and checking the quality of the stitching. It’s a lot of manual work. The Hosiery Complex is a busy place, and there are always trucks loading and unloading in the narrow streets outside. We don't have a fancy showroom here. If you want to see what we do, you just walk onto the floor and see the stacks of clothes being packed into bags. We eat our lunch in shifts because the work never really stops during the day. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish an order, especially when a big deadline is coming up. It’s a noisy and hectic environment, but we like the rhythm of it. We don't talk much about brands, we just worry about the sewing.
