The Cake Xpress

The Cake Xpress is over in Sector 18. It is a busy little corner of the area, and we have been here for a good bit now. Most mornings start early before the sun is really up so we can get things ready for the day. It smells like flour and sugar most of the time, which is something you just get used to after a week of working here. The front door has a little bell that rings whenever someone walks in, and sometimes it gets stuck if the humidity is too high. We have a few small tables, but most people just grab what they need and head back out to their cars. Sector 18 can get pretty crowded during the lunch hour, so finding a spot to park right in front isn't always easy. We keep the counters wiped down and try to stay on top of the dishes in the back. It’s a lot of manual work, standing on your feet all day and moving trays around. Sometimes we run out of things earlier than expected, and we have to tell people we're sorry about that. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we haven't found the time to move everything out of the way yet. It’s just a normal shop run by people who live nearby. We know the regulars by their usual orders and the time they show up. We usually keep a small radio playing near the oven to keep us company during the quiet hours.
