R & A Silk

Out here in Sector 63, it gets pretty industrial and loud. We are over at B-118, working with fabrics and silks most of the time. Rolls of cloth sit against the walls in big stacks. Some of them have been there a while and some move out the same day they arrive. We spend most of the morning checking the quality of the thread and making sure the machines are running like they should. If one breaks, the whole day feels long because we have to fix it ourselves or wait for someone to come by. It’s dusty work sometimes. Silk is tricky because you have to be careful with how you handle it so it doesn't snag or get ruined. We are just a small team here, mostly focused on getting the orders ready for whoever needs them. The office part of it is small, just a desk and some chairs where we keep the records. Lunch is usually quick because there is always something to pack or move. The area is full of other businesses too, so there’s always trucks coming and going. We don’t try to be anything we aren't. Knowing about silk and how to get it ready is our main thing. It is repetitive work but we are used to the rhythm of the place by now. We just keep our heads down and get the yardage out.
