Over in Sector 29, we run our seafood place. It’s not the kind of shop you come to if you’re looking for something fancy or decorated. It smells like the ocean and wet ice in here, which is just how it should be. We get our deliveries early in the morning when the sun is barely up and the air is still a bit cool. We spend a lot of time cleaning the counters and making sure the crushed ice is piled high enough to keep everything fresh. There’s usually water on the floor from the melting ice, so we wear thick rubber boots most of the day to keep our feet dry. The neighbors know us by the smell, I guess, or by the sound of us hauling crates around. We have a few regular customers who come in and know exactly what they want without even looking at what we have out on display. We use a lot of blue plastic bags and very sharp knives that we sharpen every evening. It’s a cold job, even in the middle of a hot summer, because of the refrigeration and the ice. We don't have much in the way of furniture, just the display cases and the heavy wooden cutting blocks in the back. People come in, get what they need for their dinner, and head out pretty quick. It’s a quiet enough street in Sector 29 until the delivery trucks show up and start unloading. We’ve been doing this for a while now. It’s just honest work with fresh stock and a lot of ice every single day.
