We run our ready-mix concrete business from G-99 in Prem Nagar, which is just off Gali No 6 on Paprawat Road. If you know Najafgarh, you know it can get pretty crowded around here. We have our mixing plant and the trucks parked nearby. It is a loud and dusty environment, but that is just the nature of working with concrete. We spend most of our hours monitoring the machines and making sure the trucks get out on time. In a place like New Delhi, timing is everything because the concrete will start to set if the truck gets stuck in a long traffic jam. We don't have a big corporate office or a sales team. Most of our work comes from local builders who need a reliable batch of concrete for a floor or a pillar. We are just regular people who have learned the trade over the years. We don't make big promises or use fancy language about our vision. We just mix the material and deliver it to the site. It is hard work and the days are long, especially when we have big pours scheduled. The yard is always covered in a fine layer of grey dust, and our boots are usually caked in mud, but we don't mind it much. It’s a decent living and we like being part of the building work around here. We just try to get the concrete where it needs to go.
