Shakunthala Dairy Farms

The farm is located at Sy No: 375 in Mallaram. Life here starts very early, usually way before the sun is up. The cows don't wait for anyone, so we have to be ready with the feed and the milking buckets by 4 or 5 AM. It’s a quiet time of day, just the sound of the cattle and the metal pails. Mallaram is a decent place for a dairy, plenty of space, though the flies can be a bit much in the humid months. We spend a lot of time cleaning the stalls and making sure the animals are fed well. It’s a physical job that leaves your back aching by the end of the day. We don't have any fancy automated systems like the big corporate farms you see on TV. It’s mostly just us and a few helpers doing things by hand. The milk gets collected and moved out pretty quickly. We’ve got a small shed where we keep the supplies and a couple of chairs that have seen better days. It gets really hot in the middle of the day, so everyone tends to slow down then. The farm has been part of the landscape here for a while. We just do the work that needs doing and look after the herd. It’s a basic life, but it keeps us busy from dawn till dusk. We wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if we weren't working with the animals every single day. It’s just the way things are out here in the countryside.
