The shop is located at H No: 1-45 in Nizampur, over in Navipet. It’s a regular kirana merchant business where we sell the usual stuff people need for their kitchens every day. We’ve got sacks of rice sitting on the floor and rows of jars with pulses and spices on the wooden shelves. The shop smells like a mix of soap and raw grains, which is something you get used to after a few days. We open up pretty early because the workers like to buy their things before they head out for the day. It’s mostly just me and sometimes a family member helping out when it gets busy in the evenings. The counter is a bit worn down from years of sliding change and bags across it. We use an old weighing scale and keep a notebook for the regular customers who pay at the end of the month. Navipet is a small place so we know almost everyone who walks through the door. Sometimes the supplies don't arrive on time because the truck got stuck, so we just have to tell people to come back tomorrow. The lighting isn't the best, just a couple of tube lights that flicker sometimes. It’s a basic way to make a living, but it keeps us busy and we like talking to the neighbors. There is always a lot of cleaning to do because of the dust from the street, but that is just part of keeping a shop in this area.
