Datta Earthmovers

Our place is at 5A Ram Nagar in Shivkashi, over in the Chikoddi Taluk area of Nipani. It’s a small operation. We have the earthmoving machines parked out back mostly. We’ve lived in this area for a long time, so we know the ground pretty well. Some spots have hard rock and others are just soft soil. We take the machines out whenever someone has a job that’s too big for a shovel. It’s mostly digging foundations or clearing out old plots so someone can build a new house. The machines need a lot of looking after. I spend half my time with a wrench in my hand, making sure nothing leaks. It gets hot out here in the sun, and the work is slow sometimes, but we don't mind. We don't have a big office or a secretary. If you call, you usually get me on my mobile while I'm driving. We try to be fair with people. Nipani is a decent place to work, and we’ve got enough to keep us busy most weeks. Sometimes we have to travel a bit further into the taluk for a bigger project. It’s just us and the heavy equipment. We don't use fancy words to describe what we do. We dig holes and move dirt. It’s honest work and it’s what we know. If the machine breaks, we fix it and get back to work the next day.
