Rohini Construction

Our base of operations is at 187 Rohini Bunglow on Tamilagam Road in Ooty. It’s a nice old building near the mosque. I’ve lived here for most of my life and we just run the construction business out of the front rooms. It gets quite cold up here in the Nilgiris, so there is usually a fire going or at least a lot of thick sweaters being worn. Building in Ooty isn't like building on the plains. You have to deal with the slopes and the red earth that turns to mud the moment it rains. We’ve seen a lot of changes in the hills over the years. We mostly do small cottages and repairs for people who have been living here as long as we have. The mosque nearby is a good landmark because everyone knows it. If you are looking for us, just head down Tamilagam Road and you can't miss the bungalow. We don't have a big staff, just me and a couple of supervisors who have been with us for a decade. We spend a lot of time walking the sites to make sure the stone walls are being built correctly. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except when the hammer starts at seven in the morning. We don’t do any fancy advertising. Most of our work comes from neighbors telling neighbors.
