Chakravarthi Saree Centre

Our shop is right on Mysore Road in Gudalur, right in the thick of the Bazaar. If you’ve spent any time in The Nilgiris, you probably know how busy it gets around here. Chakravarthi Saree Centre has been part of this street for a long time. It’s a bit of a climb to get up here into the hills, but the air is nice. Inside the shop, we have shelves piled high with different fabrics and colors. It isn't the fanciest place you'll ever see, but it's comfortable for us. We spend a lot of our time folding and unfolding things for people who stop by while they’re out doing their regular shopping. Some people come in looking for something specific, others just want to see what’s new on the racks. It gets dusty sometimes because of the road traffic, so we're always cleaning the glass. Being in the Bazaar means there's always noise outside—horns honking and people shouting. We’ve gotten used to it over the years. We usually open up early and stay until the sun goes down behind the mountains. It's just a regular local business. We know many of the families who live around here. They’ve been coming to us since they were kids. We don’t have fancy slogans or anything like that. We just focus on keeping the shelves stocked and making sure the shop stays open for whoever needs us. It's a living, and we're happy with it.
