You have to go down to the basement at No. 5-M in Shahpur Jat to find us. Iris Collection Pvt. Ltd. has been operating out of this space for a while. Shahpur Jat is a funny place because it looks like an old village but it's full of people making clothes and jewelry. Our basement stays a bit cooler than the street, which is a relief in July. We have our racks and our cutting area all set up down there. It’s not the biggest space, so we have to stay pretty organized or you can’t even walk through the room. We work on different collections throughout the year. It’s mostly about sitting at the machines or hand-finishing pieces. We don't really have a big storefront with a window. People who come to see us usually already know where we are or they’ve been told by a friend. We spend a lot of time looking at different fabrics and trying to figure out what will work for the next batch of items. It’s a lot of trial and error. Sometimes a design doesn't look right once it's actually made, so we have to start over. That’s just part of it. We have a few steady workers who help with the stitching. It’s a quiet enough life, just focused on making things that people might want to wear. We like being in Shahpur Jat because everyone else around here is also making things.
