R Kumar & Co is found at 3602 on the Main Road of Chawri Bazar. If you know Chawri Bazar, you know how packed the streets are with people and rickshaws, especially on the Main Road. Our place at 3602 is right in the thick of it all. We have been working from this building for a long time, and the walls have seen a lot of history. There is always a lot of heavy lifting because of the nature of the goods we handle, and the workers are used to carrying things through the narrow entryways. The fans inside the shop don't do much against the Delhi heat in June, but we keep them running anyway. People come to us because they know we are at this specific spot on the Main Road. We don't have a big display window or anything like that; it is more of a warehouse feel where everything is functional. Sometimes the electricity goes out for an hour or two, and we just sit outside on the steps and talk to the other shop owners until it comes back on. It’s a very traditional way of doing business, where everyone knows everyone else’s name. We just focus on keeping the inventory straight and dealing with the transporters who come to pick up the orders. It is a long day from morning to evening, but it’s what we do.
