If you look below the flyover at Bata Mode in Arya Nagar, you’ll find Shop No 38. That’s where R K Dhawan Co is. It’s a bit of a noisy spot because of the traffic on the flyover, but you stop noticing the rumble after a few weeks. The shop itself is packed with all sorts of things. We have a lot of stock that we have to move around daily. Being right at the Bata Mode intersection means we get a lot of people just stopping by because they saw the sign. We spend a lot of our time dealing with suppliers and checking what’s come in. It’s a hands-on job. There’s no sitting around in suits here. We’re usually in our work clothes, moving boxes or talking to customers. The light in the shop isn't the best, so we have a couple of extra lamps to see what we're doing. In the summer, it gets pretty dusty with all the cars passing by, so we have to clean the shelves almost every day. It’s a grind, but it’s our grind. We like being in the middle of all the action. You see everything from this shop. We have a small stool behind the counter where we take turns sitting down when the legs get tired. It’s a basic, honest shop in a busy part of town.
