Our shop is located in Chandni Chowk near Katra Neel, right in Gali Ghanteshwar at number 670. If you’ve ever been to this part of Delhi, you know how crowded and narrow the lanes are. Sometimes the sun doesn't even reach the street because the buildings are so close together. We at Pratap Singh & Co have been here for a long time dealing with different types of cloth and textiles. It is a family business that’s been around for generations. My grandfather sat on this same floor years ago. The walls are packed high with rolls of fabric and it always smells a bit like old cotton and dust. We spend most of our time talking to customers who have been coming to us for years. You get to know people and their families after a while. The tea seller right outside our door is always busy, and the noise from the street never really stops. We don’t use computers or any of that new technology. We still write everything down in the big paper ledgers. It works fine for us. Getting goods in and out of the lane is a struggle with all the handcarts and people, but we are used to it by now. We don't really have any plans to change how we do things or move to a modern area. This is where we belong and we enjoy the daily rhythm of the market.
