Working here in New Delhi at PGIMER Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital is a real experience. It is one of those massive places in the heart of the city that never actually sleeps. There are people everywhere, at all hours of the day and night. The heat in Delhi during the summer makes the wards feel very heavy, even with the fans going. We have thousands of people coming through the gates, and it can feel a bit overwhelming if you aren't used to the scale of it. The buildings are old and have that specific government-style architecture that you see all over the capital. We spend our days navigating through the crowds in the hallways. It’s a lot of manual work, keeping track of everyone and making sure things are moving along. The sound of the city traffic from outside never really stops. We often eat our meals quickly in whatever corner we can find. There isn't anything fancy about the way we work; it's just about getting through the huge volume of patients that arrive every morning. You see everything here, from every part of the country. It’s a place of constant motion and loud voices. Sometimes we feel quite tired by the end of a shift, but then the next group of staff comes in and the whole cycle starts over again. It’s a big part of the history of New Delhi and we are just some of the people working inside it.
