P. S. Zariwala

P. S. Zariwala is based at 162 Hardhyan Singh Road. This is Karol Bagh, so it is always a bit of a rush outside. We do work with zari and related things. It’s a traditional kind of work that requires a lot of looking at small details. The shop is filled with rolls of thread and different materials we use. It’s not a big showroom with mannequins. It’s more of a place where the actual work happens. There are usually a few of us sitting and checking the stock or talking to people about what they need for their garments. The lighting has to be good for this kind of work, so we have some bright bulbs that stay on all day. It gets a bit cramped when a lot of supplies arrive at once. We’ve been on this road for a long time, and the building shows its age a little, but it’s home to us. You can see the traffic moving outside the window, but inside we try to stay focused on the threads. Sometimes customers come in with specific ideas, and we spend time looking through what we have. It’s a lot of manual work. We don’t have a fancy computer system for everything; a lot of it is still written down in our ledgers. It’s just how we’ve always done it. It’s a steady life, surrounded by colors and the sound of the busy street right outside our door.
