Karachi Halwa House

Karachi Halwa House is located at Gole Market, specifically on Bhagat Singh Marg 5. This area has a certain feel to it that you don't get elsewhere. We've got these large metal trays filled with different kinds of halwa. The orange and yellow colors look nice under the old tube lights. We spend a lot of time cutting the blocks into squares. It’s sticky work and your hands always feel like they need a wash. We use a lot of ghee, so the floor can get a bit slippery if we aren't careful with the mopping. The customers are mostly locals who have been coming here since they were kids. They tell us stories about how the market used to look thirty years ago. We just listen and pack their boxes. The string we use to tie the boxes is kept on a big spool under the counter. Sometimes the scissors go missing and we have to hunt for them behind the jars of nuts. It’s a busy street, Bhagat Singh Marg. You see all sorts of people walking by. We don't do much advertising or anything. People just know where we are. The shop isn't big, but we make it work. We keep the glass cases clean so people can see what they are buying. It's just a simple sweet shop doing its thing every day without much fuss.
