Ansari Road in Darya Ganj has a very specific feel to it. It’s crowded, narrow, and absolutely full of books and paper everywhere you look. We are located at 4838, and it’s a busy spot to be in. Every day there are people moving boxes, delivery rickshaws weaving through the street, and the constant hum of the city. Our building is like many others in this part of Delhi—older, with lots of character and stairs that have seen a lot of feet. Inside, it’s mostly shelves and stacks of publications. We spend our time going through manuscripts, checking layouts, and dealing with the logistical side of things. It’s not a quiet office by any means. There’s always someone coming in or out. The smell of paper is everywhere, which you get used to after the first week. For lunch, we usually grab something from one of the local spots nearby; Darya Ganj has some of the best street food if you know where to go. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for a long time, so we know the other shop owners and the postmen quite well. It’s a bit chaotic outside, but inside we try to keep things as orderly as possible so we can find what we need. It’s hard work, but there’s a sense of history in this area that makes the day feel a bit different.
