Being here on Hamilton Road in Kashmere Gate means dealing with the noise and the crowd every single day. Our spot at Plot 2582/15 is right across from that old railway water tank. It’s a big landmark for us because people always get lost in these lanes. The shop is full of boxes. We have piles of imports and parts that come in from all over. Sometimes it feels like there isn't enough room to walk, but we know exactly which pile has what. The morning starts early here because the trucks arrive before the traffic gets too bad. You can smell the old metal and the oil from the street. It’s not a quiet job. There’s always someone shouting for a specific part or a rickshaw driver trying to squeeze through the narrow gap. We spend a lot of time on the phone, checking on shipments or telling someone we finally found that one specific valve they wanted. The walls could use a new coat of paint, but honestly, nobody looks at the walls here. They look at the parts. We eat our lunch right at the desk most days because it’s too busy to step away. By the time the sun goes down, the whole area feels a bit exhausted, but we stay until the last shutter on the street goes down. It is a gritty way to work, but it is what we know best.
