Ganesh Bearing Centre has its home at 635/3 on Hamilton Road. If you know Kashmere Gate, you know exactly how the streets are—crowded, noisy, and full of shops. We’ve been here for quite some time now, squeezed into this spot where we keep all our stock. It’s a lot of metal and grease, to be honest. The building is old and the stairs are narrow, but it holds everything we need for the business. Most of our customers are regulars who’ve been coming to us for their bearing needs for decades. We don’t really do any advertising. People just know that if you’re looking for a specific size or type, you come to Hamilton Road. Sometimes the traffic is so bad that people have to walk a long way to reach the shop front. I spend my day looking through manuals or searching the shelves for that one specific part someone needs for an old pump or a truck. It’s a simple life. We close up when the sun goes down and start again the next morning. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s steady. The walls are covered in old calendars and the floor is just plain concrete. We don’t have air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that’s seen better days and makes a bit of a clicking sound. That’s just the way things are at the Gate, and we are used to it.
