About National Textile – Fashion & Trends in New Delhi
Our shop is tucked away in Shop No. 1 at Aggarwal Market, right there in Shanti Mohalla on 9 No. Street. If you know Gandhi Nagar, you know how crowded it gets. Every morning we roll up the shutters and start moving the heavy bundles of cloth around. There is barely enough space to move sometimes because of all the fabric rolls stacked up against the walls. We have been dealing with textiles for quite a while, mostly just selling what people need for their own small shops or tailoring work. The street outside is always full of rickshaws and people carrying big bags on their heads. It gets quite hot in the summer, but we have a small fan that keeps us going. We spend most of our time measuring out meters of cloth and folding them back up neatly, or as neat as we can manage. It is a lot of physical work, lifting those heavy rolls all day long. We know most of the other shopkeepers on the street, so we often share a cup of tea or talk about the market prices. It is just a regular textile business, nothing too special about it. We just try to keep the right stock so when a customer comes looking for something specific, we actually have it buried somewhere in the piles. It is a messy job but it keeps us busy from morning until the market closes at night.
