G B Lal & Co has been a fixture at 475 Sadar Bazar for a very long time. We are right in the heart of Bartan Market, so you can imagine the noise of metal clanging and people haggling all day long. It’s a crowded shop, filled to the ceiling with all sorts of things. Most days you can barely see the floor because of the new stock coming in or the stuff we’re packing up to send out. It’s a family-run kind of vibe, even if we have some staff who aren't related. We’ve known our neighbors in the market for decades. We share tea and complain about the traffic jams together. The building itself is old, and the shelves are made of heavy wood that’s bowed a bit under the weight of the inventory. We don't have a website or any of that new-age marketing stuff. People just know where we are. If someone asks for a specific item, we usually know exactly which pile it’s hidden under, even if it looks like a mess to an outsider. It’s a busy, dusty, and honest way to make a living. When the market shuts down for the evening, there’s a certain peace that settles over the street, but during the day, it’s non-stop. We just keep doing what we’ve always done, providing what the locals need without any extra glitter or false promises.
