Running a business in Bhagirath Palace is a whole different world. Chandni Chowk is always crowded and the lanes are narrow but this is where everything happens. We are located at number 1520 and it is a busy spot. Every morning begins with opening up the shutters and navigating the rickshaws and delivery carts that block the way. We handle a lot of different items here and the phone doesn't stop ringing once the market wakes up. It is an old building and the walls have seen a lot of history over the years. People come from all over Delhi and even further away to find what they need in these markets. We spend most of the day sorting through stock and making sure orders are ready for pickup. It can get a bit dusty and loud with everyone shouting prices and moving boxes around. Lunch is usually something quick from a local stall nearby. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit but we just carry on by candlelight or torches if we have to. It's a bit messy and disorganized to an outsider but there is a system to everything we do here. We’ve been part of this community for a long while and know most of the other shopkeepers by name. It is just how life is in this part of Delhi. It’s loud and exhausting but we wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Even the stray cats around the market seem like old friends.
