Sadar Bazar is never quiet. We are near the City Hotel, which is a busy spot. The building is old and the stairs are a bit steep. We’ve been here at 3966 for a long time. It’s mostly piles of paper and the sound of fans whirring overhead. Ajmeri Gate is right there, so you hear the horns and the people shouting all day. We deal with a lot of clients who are in a hurry. It’s just how business is done in this part of Delhi. Our desks are covered in files and we use a lot of pens. We don't have fancy air conditioning that works all the time. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit and wait. It’s a small office but we manage to fit everyone in. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we never find the time to move all the cabinets. We know the tea seller downstairs very well. There’s no big sign outside, just the name on the door. People come to us because they know the address. We aren't trying to impress anyone with the furniture. It’s functional and a bit dusty. We spend the day checking figures and talking to people on the phone. By the time evening comes, we are ready to lock up and head out into the crowd at the station. It is a bit cramped, but it has been our spot for years. The windows rattle whenever a large truck passes by outside.
