Asham Tailors

If you come down to Shivaji Gali in Gandhi Nagar, you'll find us at number 9/1646. It’s a narrow street, always crowded with people and carts moving back and forth. Asham Tailors has been tucked away in this spot for years. The sound of sewing machines is basically the soundtrack to our lives. We start early when the light is still coming through the small window, and we usually stay late into the evening. There are stacks of fabric everywhere you look—sometimes it feels like the walls are made of cloth. We do a lot of cutting and stitching, mostly focused on getting things done for the local market. It’s not a quiet job. There is always someone shouting outside or a delivery bike trying to squeeze past. Our space is pretty cramped, with threads of every color tangling up under the tables. We don’t have a big fancy storefront. It’s just us, our machines, and a lot of hard work. People come in with their measurements, and we do our best to get the fit right. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait, but that’s Delhi for you. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit, but the work stays the same. It’s a lot of sitting and focusing on the needle. It gets tiring on the eyes after a few hours, but we keep at it because people expect their orders on time and we don't like to disappoint.
