Kengeri Satellite Town in Bangalore is where we spend most of our time. Specifically, we’re over at Ews173 on the 5th Main. It’s a busy part of the city, especially with all the traffic that builds up on 7th Cross. M. Siva Kumar is the one running the show here. We deal with cargo moving, so there is always a lot of heavy lifting and boxes sitting around the entrance. The office is tucked away in a spot that’s easy for the trucks to find if the drivers know the shortcut. We don't have those glass-fronted buildings you see in the fancy tech parks. It’s just a regular building with stairs that squeak a little bit when you go up. We start early because the Bangalore traffic gets impossible after nine in the morning. If we don’t get the trucks moving by then, everything stays stuck for hours. There’s a small shop nearby where we get snacks and coffee. Our desks are usually covered in logbooks and delivery receipts. We don't spend much time on decorations. The walls are a plain white, and we have a calendar from a few years ago still hanging there because nobody bothered to take it down. We just focus on the boxes and the destinations. It’s loud, dusty sometimes, and very real. Most of the guys here have been working together for years. We know the routes around the state pretty well by now. It’s just a standard cargo operation in a working-class neighborhood.
