Army Hospital

Being part of the Operation Theatre team at the Army Hospital in Delhi Cantt means long hours and a lot of standing. It is a very specific part of the building. You walk past the main entrance and head toward the back where things get a bit quieter. Well, quiet in terms of people talking, but there is always the hum of machines. Delhi Cantt is a big area, so finding us takes a minute if you aren't used to the layout. The floors are always cold because of the air conditioning. We have to keep it that way for the equipment. Some of the equipment is newer than others. We make do with what we have and it usually works out just fine. Most of us eat our lunch in the small breakroom near the lockers. The tea there is okay, nothing special, but it wakes you up. The walls are a pale color that hides the scuffs from the gurneys pretty well. There isn’t much sunlight in this part of the hospital, so we sometimes forget if it’s raining outside or if the sun is out. We just follow the schedule on the whiteboard. It’s a lot of washing hands and checking lists over and over. Nothing very glamorous about it, really. It’s just the daily routine for us here in Delhi Cantt. We try to keep things organized despite the constant rush of people coming through the doors.
