Kashmere Gate is the heart of the auto parts market. Amba Auto Company is at 144/9 Nicholson Road. If you walk down the street, you’ll see hundreds of shops just like ours. We mostly deal with spare parts. It’s a narrow shop, packed from floor to ceiling with boxes. Half the time we have to climb a ladder just to find what a customer wants. It’s crowded and dusty, but there’s a system to the chaos. We know exactly where the old stuff is hidden. The street outside is never quiet. Horns honking, people shouting, and guys carrying heavy loads on their backs. We’ve been at this address for a long time. The building is old and the stairs are steep. We don't have fancy displays or air conditioning. People come here because they know we likely have that one specific part they can't find elsewhere. We talk to a lot of mechanics and drivers every day. They tell us their stories and we share a bit of gossip about the market. It’s a tough way to make a living sometimes, but it’s what we know. We don't bother with a website or anything like that. If someone needs us, they come to Nicholson Road. We open early and stay until the shutters come down late in the evening. Sometimes we get orders from far away, and we have to pack them up. My hands are usually dirty from handling the metal parts all day. We just stay here and work.
