Agam Overseas

You have to climb up to the 2nd floor to find Agam Overseas. We are at 1595 Hathi Khana in Azad Market. The stairs are old and narrow. Carrying boxes up and down them is the hardest part of the job. Azad Market is always packed with people and rickshaws. It’s hard to even walk on the street sometimes. Our office is small and filled with samples and shipping papers. We spend a lot of time on the phone or writing out orders. You can hear the shouting from the market below through the windows. It’s never quiet here. Hathi Khana has a lot of history but it’s mostly just busy now. We have shelves reaching up to the ceiling. Finding a specific item often involves a ladder and some luck. We drink tea brought up from the stall downstairs. The light in here isn't the best, so we use some old desk lamps. It gets very dusty with all the cardboard boxes moving around. We are just a small team trying to get things sent out on time. The 2nd floor gives us a little bit of a view, but mostly we just see the tops of trucks. It’s a bit of a maze to find us if you aren't looking closely. We’ve stayed at 1595 because it’s right where all the trading happens. It’s a messy, loud, and honest way to make a living in the city.
