Working out of a DDA Shed in Okhla Industrial Area Phase-1 has its own vibe. Our unit is C-22, and it’s basically where Advance Research Instruments Company lives every day. It’s a sturdy, no-nonsense building that suits what we do. Inside, there is usually a layer of fine dust on things if you don’t wipe them down every morning, just because of all the construction and trucks nearby. We’ve got our benches lined up with various tools and different instruments we are checking or putting together. It’s not a large space, so you have to be careful where you step when the floor is full of crates. The lighting is okay, though we usually have extra lamps at the workstations for the more detailed bits. The neighborhood is full of other small workshops, so there is a constant hum of machinery in the background. We usually grab lunch from the small stalls just down the road. It’s a simple routine here. We open up early, get the lights on, and start going through the list of tasks. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook and other days it’s just the sound of someone filing metal or clicking switches. It’s just our corner of the industrial area where we handle the research gear and try to keep things organized. We have been in this specific shed for quite some time now and everyone around here knows us by name.
