Mango Processing Unit

Out here in Puliyamthoni, things get pretty busy when the season starts. We are located right in Muthalamada P.O, which most people around here know is a big spot for mangoes. It’s a simple setup we have at the Mango Processing Unit. There is a lot of dust on the roads sometimes, and the sun gets really hot during the day. We spend most of our time sorting through what comes in from the local trees. It is hard work and your hands get sticky, but that is just how it goes in this line of business. The shed where we work isn’t fancy or anything, just a place where we get the job done. Sometimes the trucks are late and we have to wait around, drinking tea and talking about the weather. People from the village stop by to see what’s happening. We don't have a big office with air conditioning. It's just the machines and the fruit and us trying to keep up with the harvest. Muthalamada is a quiet place most of the year, but when the mangoes are ready, everything changes. You can smell the fruit in the air for miles. We just try to get everything processed before it goes soft. It’s a lot of lifting and moving crates around. We’ve been at this for a while now, and the routine stays pretty much the same. It is not glamorous work, but it keeps us busy and part of the community here.
