District Government Music School

If you walk down 1st Street in Ram Nagar, you will probably hear us before you see us. We are the local government music school here in the Dargamitta area of Nellore. It is a small building where we teach traditional instruments and singing to anyone who wants to learn. It is not a grand conservatory or anything like that. It is just a simple government-funded spot with a few rooms for practice. The instruments we have are well-used and have been here for many years. Some of the harmoniums and tablas are quite old, but they still sound okay for our lessons. We do not have a big marketing budget or a fancy website. People usually find out about us by word of mouth or by just walking past and hearing the music coming from the windows. The teachers are local musicians who really know their stuff but do not make a big deal out of it. It is a quiet street for the most part, except for when we have our group sessions in the afternoons. We spend our days showing students how to hold a bow or find the right note on their instrument. It is a slow process and we do not rush anyone. The floors are a bit worn down and the paint is peeling in some corners, but it is a comfortable place for people who like music. It is just a part of the local culture here in Ram Nagar.
