Kashmir Welcome

Kashmir Welcome is located on H.B. Good Faith, right there on Dal Lake near Nehru Park. Living and working on a houseboat is different from a regular building. We’ve got our post office box, number 49, but most people just look for us by the water. The wood of the boat needs constant care because of the moisture, so we’re often painting or fixing things up during the off-season. When the sun hits the lake in the morning, it’s quite a view, even though we see it every day. We have guests coming in on the small boats, and we help them with their bags onto the deck. The rooms inside are decorated with traditional carvings that have been there since my father’s time. It’s not a fast-paced life here; everything moves at the speed of the water. We spend our days making tea, tidying up the sitting area, and watching the shikaras go by. Sometimes the lake gets a bit crowded with tourists, but Nehru Park is a good landmark for people trying to find where we are docked. We handle all the bookings ourselves, usually over the phone or just when people show up at the bank. It is a quiet existence for the most part, focused on the daily chores of keeping a floating house in good shape and making sure the guests are comfortable.
