Red Cross Ambulance Service

Our station is right across from the District Hospital, which is a very convenient spot for an ambulance service. We spend most of our time waiting for the calls to come in or helping people get back home after they’ve been discharged. Being right there opposite the hospital means we see everything that goes on in the area. Our team is small, mostly just local drivers who know every pothole in the city. The vans are older, but we keep them running well so they don't break down when someone needs them. It gets quite busy during the peak hours when the hospital is full and the traffic is backed up. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that. It’s just a room where we sit, drink tea, and wait for the phone to ring. Sometimes the wait is long, and other times we don’t even have time to eat our lunch. People usually just walk across the street from the hospital to talk to us about a transport. We don't do much marketing because our location speaks for itself. It’s a practical job and we don’t try to make it sound like anything else. We've been in this same spot for years, and most of the hospital staff knows us well by now. It’s a simple arrangement that works for the neighborhood. We handle the stretcher with care and make sure the patient is comfortable enough for the ride. It’s a long day most days, but it’s what we know how to do for the town. We stay ready by the phone.
