Bharath College

Bharath College is situated out in Uzhamalakal, near Puthukulangara in Thiruvananthapuram. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city, but that makes it a bit quieter here. The campus is surrounded by a lot of greenery, which is typical for this part of Kerala. When it rains, which is often, everything gets very wet and the students have to crowd into the corridors. We have different departments here, and the students are mostly local kids from the district. The desks are a bit old and sometimes the fans make a clicking noise, but we keep the place running. It’s a very local atmosphere. The staff in the office have been here for years and know all the paperwork by heart. We don't have any flashy slogans. Students come here to get their degrees and hopefully find a job afterwards. In the afternoons, you can see groups of them sitting under the trees talking. We have a canteen that serves basic snacks and tea, which is where everyone hangs out. It’s not a fancy place, just a regular college where people come to learn and move on with their lives. We handle the exams, the admissions, and the daily classes without much drama. That’s how we like it. The village atmosphere suits us well and the students seem to appreciate being away from the noise of Thiruvananthapuram. We just go about our business every day and try to help the students out.
